This is Grandma.
For 33 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren,
so far.
The first time I met her (my second date with John),
she fed me until I was stuffed, and Grandpa said,
"Mary, you've really outdone yourself this time."
He always said that.
Every time I go to her home, she offers me food--
including yesterday.
She's in terrible pain, has pneumonia and shingles,
and she's so weak she can hardly move, but she says,
"Shawna, do you want something to eat?"
Dear sweet Mary,
Thanks for:
laughing at our jokes
being present
not caring a thing about things
never forgetting a birthday
being steady and sure
filling us with good food
and comfort and wisdom and faith.
Most of all, thanks for raising John,
who is unfailingly kind,
just like you.
We love you, Grandma.
